Why should you take defensive firearms training?

Quite simply, static target practice, standing on the line punching holes in a paper target just doesn’t prepare you for a real life situation where your life, and possibly the lives of your family depends on your ability to get your gun into action fast!

We like to say you will “fight like you train” and its true! Under stress, faced with a threat or multiple threats your focus will always be on the threat. You won’t have the time to think through the act of getting your gun out and into action. Your will have to react quickly and decisively and more than likely the outcome will be decided in seconds!

This class is the next step beyond "Basic Pistol Class" We start by going over the fundamentals of handgun safety, concealed carry situations and drawing from concealment. We then progress into presenting and firing in defensive scenarios. We practice moving to cover, tactical reloading drills, one handed shooting and weak hand drills, drawing while seated, multiple threats, moving while shooting and many more real world defensive skills.

This is a fun course with the opportunity to get in a lot of shooting!

1 Day Class...starts at 9 am.

Bring your lunch and plenty of water to keep you hydrated!

Requirements: Pistol, Holster (no cross draw or shoulder holsters allowed), at least one extra magazine or speed loader (2 or 3 would be better),magazine pouch, eye and ear protection, baseball type hat and long pants.

Wear a cover garment like a shirt, vest or light coat (depending on the weather) as we will be drawing from concealment just as you would have to do if you needed to use your gun on the street. This is a very important skill set that takes lots of practice!

A camp chair or folding chair for seating drills

Ammunition: Bring at least 300-400 rounds Minimum. No reloaded ammo allowed.

Tim,

I should start out by saying after being an MP carrying a pistol for over 8 years and shooting as often as I could afford too I thought I was pretty proficient with my pistol. I had received top gun at every Army school I have attended and won many unit level competitions. That being said your classes showed me I was good at putting holes in paper but needed to work on my street skills, the ones that really matter!

Over the years I had picked up many pieces of the drills that we performed today but never incorporated them together. I feel like today's training gave me a solid base to work off of and continue my training. Like you said after we got the basics down we knew what we were messing up in and how to correct it. It really gave me some great tools to work off of and bring back to my unit and my soldiers. I feel that it is my responsibility to ensure my subordinates are as well versed with their handguns as they can be. For those that can I will do everything I my power to get them to your class but for those that can't I will do my best pass on some of the knowledge that you have given to me.

I could not more highly recommend your class, everybody that carries or even owns a pistol with the thought of some day they may use it to protect themselves should take it. The instruction was great for everybody to those who were running their guns great to those who were having a little difficulty. I never once felt that this class was too much for anybody from the confident shooter to the ones just starting out. I also don't think that you could find a more reasonably priced class any were! You definitely get your money's worth and allot more!

Harvey and I truly enjoyed your class last Saturday. You can count on the fact that we will be recommending it to anyone we know that is interested in shooting. We were both tired when we got home! I do not have a Facebook account or I would go out and write a note of recommendation, but I will let other Second Amendment Sisters know about your classes.

Harvey and I both appreciate what you do. We have always had a gun in our home for protection but even when we got our CHL some years ago, we had never done much shooting. Getting the CHL doesn’t do much for improving ability to actually use a gun and you have brought us to a new level. Don’t worry – we know we are not highly skilled. Hopefully with age, we recognize our limitations! BUT you have given us so many things to work on and now we just have to practice, practice, practice.

Tim, Nancy and I just wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed taking the Defensive Handgun Class with you. It was so much more than we expected. We did not realize how difficult it would be to draw our guns from concealment while moving and shooting. Without your training, we both agree we would never have had a chance if we needed to defend ourselves. Now we feel like maybe we have an edge! The malfunction drills you taught us were incredible! Prior to your class whenever I had experienced a malfunction I just stopped everything to figure out what was wrong. We were both blown away that you had us in no time clearing a malfunction while moving and shooting and doing reloads at the same time! It was incredible! As you know, we had taken other handgun courses around the country in the last few years, but none of them addressed the real world aspects of a gunfight like you did.

Nancy wanted me to tell you her thumbs were really sore the next day from reloading hundreds of rounds during the class. She says she never felt so good being sore!

We have told our whole gun club about this class and we heard that some have already signed up for future classes. We are thinking about taking it again, just to get smoother at the drills.

One other thing, we really appreciated how you took your time with everyone in the class and helped everyone work out different problems they had. You made each one of us feel like you were teaching us one on one. You are a great instructor and we look forward to training with you again.

Tim, I wanted to drop you a note with my comments about your Defensive Handgun Class I took in Oct. First I am retired from the Army after 20 years, and with the exception of one very embarrassing qualification range, I always scored Expert in both Rifle and Pistol. I recently started shooting in 3 gun competitions and on average I shoot nearly 5000 rounds a year; I always thought my shooting skills were acceptable. I was wrong, compared to the skills I have now, my old weapons skills were that of a "Rookie" and now that I know that, I will be coming back to take the class again. Your class completely changed the thought process of what a Handgun is used for and how to use a Handgun and in my opinion no one should carry a concealed firearm without going to this class.
